Hey Graham,
I'm not sure if this also works in SFM 1.0.6, but in 1.1 RC2 you can display the attachments as thumbnails (or shrinked to any size), rather than in full size. Some pics that are posted here are causing the need of horizontal scrolling, which is obviously quite annoying. Look under "Manage files" (or whatever it's called in the English version) below the upload size options and set the display size options to maybe 800x600 or lower. If you click on the image, then it will be displayed in full size.

No it wont work in 1.0.x, sadly, its a feature in the 1.1 Line.
I use RC2 on my board and its great. Here's some of my favouirte features in RC2 - Added functionality for generating reports in the admin center.
- Added setting for password strength to the admin center.
- Added the option to add multiple ban items to a single ban.
- Each ban can now have multiple restrictions, including a new restriction 'cannot login'.
- Added functionality for reporting personal messages to administrators
- Added option to display linked events in a topic.
- Registration management will now allow filtering by different approval types where appropriate.
- Added a 'new' icon for new posts that were added while posting/previewing.
- You can now post html by adding it in [html] tags - administrators only. (Great for google ads in sigs)
- Added Calendar Manager to admin center. From here admins can manage the calendar settings and holidays on their forum.
- New settings added to allow posting of events not linked to a post.
- Added ability to set a time limit after which posts can no longer be edited.
- Added new setting for warning the user when they are replying to a topic older than a set amount of days. Helps to Stop Bumping
The next version on the 1.1 line should be coming out soon too.

That last one alone might make it worthwhile...

That last one alone might make it worthwhile... Very true. Anyway, I'm quite surprised about the progress the SMF crew made so far, and it has easily become my favorite free board software.

Well, just to calm you guys down a bit I'm using SMF 1.1 RC2 on my new forum too, it works alright, but has certain issues. New/Old posts functionality doesn't always works properly, the board generates wrong links to the topics on the index page. Topics/posts link structure is very weird in SMF; the sources are way too complex and incomprehensible for the existing functionality. And two things just suck rotten eggs in SMF - database schema and templating system. I already had so much headache with them. Still, it appears to be the best forum engine from the freeware ones, others are even worse.

We all know that there are bound to be a few bugs, which is why its still in the Release Candidate stage. Like I said, the next release is coming within the month, I'm not sure if it'll be RC3 or 1.1 Final. So I wouldnt upgrade just yet. New/Old posts functionality doesn't always works properly, the board generates wrong links to the topics on the index page. What? I've not had anything like that on MT2. templating system.
I Pm'ed you a link on MT2 where you can convert it into YaBB SE's template style, its much simpler. I've tried it out.

It's just a simpler style, not the system, right? The system remains the same - plain PHP code with "echo" operators and strings full of HTML tags. As for the bugs, yeah, I hope they will fix them. Someday.
