This link will display all new posts since your last visit, so you don't have to browse the sections.
Of course I'd prefer to see it on the main page, but Graham seems to be very lazy busy... Grin

Hmm, if only I'd looked at this thread before checking all the other ones with 'new' written next to them  D'oh!

Tis good, I like the idea. Although, you would'nt be able to get rid of topic's your not interested in. But its a cool thing for people on the go.

... On that matter, Graham has a lot on his plate at the moment. The forum funding struggle, Runing this place, and I'm sure theres a bunch of insurance crap to take care off after the fox accident. So, patience... Wink

Now, if only there was an indicator on each topic to show which were the new posts since I last looked....  Okay, now I'm just being greedy. Smiley
There is an indicator - in the forums overview, just click on the small "new" icon next to the thread title. This will bring you automatically to the first unread posting.

I've never been able to find a decent manual, just the basic "help" thing in the main menu, which doesn't go in to much detail.

Well, most forum software works almost the same way (same BB code, same functions), so I just tried clicking here and there - and found it more or less by accident. This icon is so convenient, and I really miss it when I visit a forum that doesn't have such a thing.

Then rejoyce, for I have put a link to it in the first page of the forum news!

Cool! Thanks Smiley

To Graham: if you will ever decide to add a link (or button) to the top menu, maybe this image will be useful:

This forum software has a thing of keeping important links and icons very, very small - in special the message that warns me of new messages. It's very, very tiny, in the corner of the window, I often forget to see it.

Its not the forums software that makes it small, its the forums skin, however, as Dagdamor has said, it is a very handy feature, I use it all the time. Anyway, here are instructions on how to get it up and running.

First Save the image that Dagdamor posted to the /images directory of your theme. And in index.template.php

Find:
Code:
// Edit Profile... [profile]
if ($context['allow_edit_profile'])
echo '
<a href="', $scripturl, '?action=profile">', ($settings['use_image_buttons'] ? '<img src="' . $settings['images_url'] . '/' . $context['user']['language'] . '/profile.gif" alt="' . $txt[79] . '" style="margin: 2px 0;" border="0" />' : $txt[467]), '</a>', $context['menu_separator'];

Add after:
Code:
<a href="', $scripturl, '?action=unread">', ($settings['use_image_buttons'] ? '<img src="' . $settings['images_url'] . '/' . $context['user']['language'] . '/newposts.gif" alt="' . $txt[79] . '" style="margin: 2px 0;" border="0" />' : $txt[467]), '</a>', $context['menu_separator'];

And that should work. But to play it safe, make sure you download index.template.php into two folders. One for a backup incase it doesnt work.

Hope that helps.

*bump*
I nicely ask Graham again to add that "new posts" button to the forum header. Sad
It won't be a hard task I guess, but it would be very useful... why not use Pat's link? Because it opens in the separate window, because it appears randomly, because it's available only on the forum index page.
