So I installed Service Pack 2 a while back. ICQ hasn't worked since. I've reinstalled it, tried turning off my firewall (zone alarm), tried fiddling eveyr setting i can think of...nothing. Can't find any answers on the internet either

I know a few people use ICQ, so although this isn't a computer help forum, I'll ask anyway. Anyone else had/solved this problem?

All you can do is watch the inevitable crash down

Is it the latest version of ICQ? They've altered the protocol with ICQ5. A lot of third party programs stopped working or started having random rashes because of the changes. My own preference began crashing every time a message arrived because the protocol changes caused a buffer overflow. It was fixed in about a day... so make sure you've got the latest version of the program and turn that firewall back on.

The Scots (originally Irish, but by now Scotch) were at this time inhabiting Ireland, having driven the Irish (Picts) out of Scotland; while the Picts (originally Scots) were now Irish (living in brackets) and vice versa. It is essential to keep these distinctions clearly in mind (and verce visa).

I've got the latest version, yeah. And I only turned the firewall off briefly as an experiment (which, as it did nothing, I turned back on shaprish). go.icq.com isn't working either (I can sign up apparently sucessfully, but once I click on the button to actually run ICQ2go, it enters the 'loading' stage then just sits there forever...), which is a complete mystery to me as it seems to be entirely browser based Huh
(EDIT: just tried it using IE in case Opera wasn't compatable - still nothing)

the problem with go.icq.com might e because of the java runtime libraries, try to get them updated from the SUn site:
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

As for the other ICQ, i don't know.. try to do a manual total uninstall. Obliterate the folders, nuclearize the files and then try a clean reinstall...

Well, I tried the Java update, and it looks like (fingers crossed) it's fixed everything. Let's see if it keeps working for more than a day...
