WHAT
"That the woman was made of a rib out of the side of Adam; not made out of his head to rule over him, nor out of his feet to be trampled upon by him, but out of his side to be equal with him, under his arm to be protected, and near his heart to be beloved."

Funny how they used the model from Large Marge in the illustration.

I think this is more disturbing that the KISS weddings I've seen pictures of...
And acceptance is the answer to all my problems today. When I am disturbed, it is because I find some person, place, thing or situation - some fact of my life - unacceptable to me, and I can find no serenity until I accept that person, place, thing or situation as being exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment. Nothing, absolutely nothing happens in God's world by mistake...I need to concentrate not so much on what needs to be changed in the world, but on what needs to be changed in me and my attitudes.

Yeah, Terry, I was just thinking that. What the hell kind of reporter is as ignorant about The Simpsons as to use that horrible promo card as an accurate image of Homer and Marge?

Oh, and the rest of it is disturbing as well.

That'll be most of 'em.  ;)
I can't say I find it all that disturbing (well, maybe "Homer" - the poor bloody registrar must have got a shock...) and I rather like the idea of a cement truck as a wedding car for some reason...  And I just love this line:
No one knew Bob and Jane were coming as the Simpsons - we thought they might turn up as a lion and lioness.

Never a dull moment...  ;D
There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning....
And that, I think, was the handle - that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of Old and Evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn't need that. Our energy would simply prevail. There was no point in fighting - on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave....
So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark - that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back.

In a world where you can get married on a mock-up of the Star Ship Enterprise in full uniform dress, I'm not shocked.

Graham and Chris should do this if they renew their vows on their tenth anniversary y/n?  ;D

My own concession to fannishness at my wedding was wanting to have a bouquet of purple lilacs like the revolutionaries wore in "Night Watch",* but they were out of season.

*That's the Terry Pratchett novel, not the crappy Danish thriller, or the Hollywood remake of the crappy Danish thriller, or the Russian fantasy novel that was made into a film.

in richness and in poorness, in impotence and in potence, in quiet solitude or blasting across the alkali flats in a jet-powered, monkey-navigated... and it goes on like this.

The colure of Marge’s dress is changed. In the promo, it is reed. Here it is green. Probably changed to fit the wedding picture. ;-)
I think it is OK as a gimmick to have a weeding like that. I once new a guy who had his weeding where he and his to be wife was dressed like hoboes.
But, well. Depends on how you look at it. ;-)
