All you can do is watch the inevitable crash down

There are, *ahem* "naughty" copies floating around already so I know some people will ahve seen it. I'm waiting until the release to actually watch it, personally, but feel free to spoil us all with every moment of it if you've already had a chance to watch.

I'm nervous about the plot. The few spoilers I have seen seem to indicate that they've dicked around with the characters again. I really hope they don't screw up...

Anyway, off you go.

Bought it today. I liked it. It's not Holy $#!+ Smack You On Your Ass Awesome, but it's entertaining.

Spoiler (hover to show)

And the preview for "Bender's Game"... Can't say I was expecting that. Looks pretty damn funny, though.

The spoilers I'm reading elsewhere seem to tell me that the Fry!Leela relationship becomes very negatively passionate. So still passionate, but in the wrong direction... I shall see if this is true when I get to watch it, whenever that may be. I decided to be good and wait for the actual DVD to arrive.

It may be some time... Smiley

I'm watching it as we speak. (Well, it's on pause at the moment.)

Of course I'll have to suspend judgement until I've seen it all, but while it isn't perfect by any means, it's so much better than "Bender's Big Score" it's not even funny.

Welp, time to register my disgust...

I'll be back with more thoughts when I can actually assemble them into something a little more understandable.

I was really disappointed with it.  To be sure, it had some good stuff - the Bender sub plot as already mentioned was the best part of the movie.  The whole Yivo thing was just bad and got worse as it went on.

Fry - where do I start - it's season two all over again.    Let's just ignore every bit of character and plot development that happened in seasons 3 and 4 and BBS.   And {quoting Archonix's spoiler} "... a teensy bit out of character ..." {/quote}???  *bangs head on cinder block wall*  It was so far out of character I was looking for the malfunctioning transporter and his good twin to show up - "under the influence" doesn't even begin to excuse it.  Angry

Leela - well, she hung on pretty well right up until the end, and then she caved.  Sad

I give it a DBender's Big Score was WAY better than this thing.

Caitlyn was one of the things that initially annoyed me the most, actually. It seemed to go a bit like this...

FRY: Hey there, this is my new girlfriend.
LEELA: I've heard a lot about you!
AUDIENCE: Who the f*uk is Caitlyn?

And I'm no shipper, but it kinda beggars belief that after all the Fry/Leela fuss in BBS, that he would suddenly forget her and shack up with Random Earth Female #331.

Colleen. Wink

The main problem was the sudden change of gears when Yivo started with all the "oh you were dressed provocatively" crap. That whole segment just felt completely out of place. I'd have dropped that - and the "genticles" with the whole implication of a "rape" thing - and extended the segments on either side of it to give more of a build-up to Bender's rescue, and to give Leela more time to be talked into joining the tentacle thing. Maybe even have Fry talk her into it, after a long attempt to stay free of its control, and then have Bender's rescue actually be somewhat meaningful. Maybe.

Bascally I objected to Yivo as a sympathetic character. A lonely alien could work, but it'd have to be inhuman and incomprehensible and, rather than being in "love" with everyone, merely trying to provide a heavenly paradise for the people it's captured in order to keep them around to sate its need for company.

The idea of Fry dating someone else after BBS could have been made to work as well, if they'd worked in some idea of Fry being confused by the way he's feeling after Lars and so on.

Also what was with Kif? I see the need for him to grow a spine, but I don't believe he'd be so vindictive toward Amy. SShe's been failthful to him for years, a single slip when he's dead... I just don't see it.

Ultimately the problem is that it felt rushed and jumpy. I think it's the problem of having to slice up for episodes again, it forces an awkward stop-go pacing that prevents the story from developing coherently.

cross-posting is fun!

Let me start with a digression. A long, long time ago, Venture Brothers episode "Love Bheits" aired. The core of the episode was that a sadistic cyborg megalomaniac falls in love with an underage boy in a Princess Leia outfit. At the time, I called it "the vilest love story in all of fiction".

"Love Bheits" may now step down!

I'll put more detailed remarks within spoilers below, but suffice it to say, I was a lot less disappointed than a lot of people in this thread. Don't get me wrong: this film has serious failings, which I will address. But by and large, I was just so delighted that it was neither the meh-fest of "Bender's Big Score", nor, as some sneak peek reviews had made me fear, Family Guy In Space.* It just had the sense of wonder that "Bender's Big Score" mostly lacked, and generally felt a lot more like Futurama.

As for the downsides, I agree with most other reviewers here. See below. There are spoilers there.

*Isn't that their newest film, anyway?

I was watching the special features yesterday, all those deleted scenes. There's a very small scene they removed which, now I've seen it, would have somehow made everything work so much better.
