Eh, we talk about OFF episodes, so why not Futurama episodes now that we've added the show?  The newest one...dunno, have mixed feelings. The first third was pretty funny and clever, and there was good stuff throughout, but this episode kinda creeped me out a wee bit for obvious reasons. Anybody else? |

Well, once I understood what it was all about (none too hard to figure), I became just a bit wary. However, I liked it a lot. Not one of the ten best, but good solid Futurama fare. Which means *very* good.
What I liked:
The whole bit at the Olympic Games ("Sweden? I don't think so!")
Calculon. Can't get too much Calculon.
The ongoing feminist banter ("You make us look like jerks in front of the other genders!")
"Coilette of Robonia". Dangit, but Bender makes a good-looking girl.
Calculon's Pride and Calculon's Talent
The fact that this is the greatest tragic love story of the century.
The entire wedding scene. Pure brilliance.
What I didn't like as much:
Well... there seemed to be a bit of gender typecasting around, especially at the end. But that's only to be expected in an episode like this. Nothing stupid chauvinist writers a modern emancipated Warrior of Doom woman can't RAGE handle.
The whole romance between Calculon and "Coilette" seemed to drag on a bit. None too bad, but emotions are stupid and should be hated.
Overuse of the word "bimbot". OK, so it was rather funny...
The film was a chick flic.
What I didn't get:
Why are fembots weaker than malebots, anyway?
In the film "Coilette: The Calculon Story", the wedding wasn't as dramatic as in real life. (The heck?)
Since the Professor presented "Coilette" to "her" groom, does that mean he's her father in a legal sense? (After all, he did have a relationship with Mom, who created Bender and may therefor be called his "mother".) Am I overanalysing here?

Maybe a wee bit. It did have some good bits, I liked the episode, it was just hard to watch sometimes because I kept getting weirded out. Heh. For some reason I found the scene where Calculon cuts the 'weight' and the black robot goes crashing down extremely funny. That, and the gang throwing scraps to the begging Zoidberg. Also got a kick out of Leela's line "Promise you'll stay out of my gender" (or something like that). Thought you'd like the Sweden one.  |

Um, you know you can start a seperate thread for seperate episodes, right? Yes, Hypno Toad you really should start a new thread if you want to review a different episode of Futurama. Anyway I thought the episode was really good. I got some laughs out of it. |
