I find that fanfics bring to the series a different side that you would rarely find, espically when it comes to stories about the background of other characters than that of the Simpsons like Skinner, Wiggum, Flanders, Edna, or anyone else for that matter. Plus, I like how it puts the characters in different situations and genres that you would never find them in. Plus, its a nice alternative for when a episode is sort of lacking...at best.

Actually that's a good point. One of my favourite fanfics from way back is a re-write of The Genesis Tub, with a different plot and two alternative endings. It was very creative.

The Scots (originally Irish, but by now Scotch) were at this time inhabiting Ireland, having driven the Irish (Picts) out of Scotland; while the Picts (originally Scots) were now Irish (living in brackets) and vice versa. It is essential to keep these distinctions clearly in mind (and verce visa).

I would have to say fanfics. While they provide no assisting visual aid, most of them are not limited to merely comedy, and have a lot of emotion in quite a few that is a calibur that no writer on the simpsons could ever acheive. The closest they've ever come is in episodes like Summer of 4 ft. 2 or Lisa's substitute. There are still some better aspects that the show holds over fanfiction, but not enough to change my opinion on the subject.
