Based on
this thread from a few years ago. I noticed that some of the songs that I came up with dealt specifically with romantic relationships between characters. "Wonderful World" nicely sums up Milhouse's feelings for Lisa. "Who Am I?" felt natural for Lisa, but specifically when I read some of Missy's stories with Thelonious it seemed to hit home; she's grown up and into the working world, yet her life isn't much less cruddy than it was when she was 8, with one exception--a happy personal situation.
So what songs evoke an OFF relationship for you, be it from episode, fic, or pic? Here are some that I had...
Kirk+Luanne: "Backside of Thirty", John Conlee
This '70s song isn't well known, but while Kirk and Luanne were separated, this was as succinct a summation of Kirk's side of things as any piece of script could be.
Ned+Maude: "Ain't Misbehavin'", Fats Waller and others
A standard that captures Flanders' upbeat optimism and general attitude toward Maude and life in general.
Allison+Bart: "I'm Ready For Love", Martha Reeves
Inspired by Marco's "First Date" pic, a sensitive portrayal of the drama, tension, nerves and excitement that accompany such a moment, which Alex (and hopefully I) captured in fanfic.
Apu+Manjula: "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place", The Animals
This probably could have resonated for Apu during his years in Kolkata, and having to raise eight kids in Springfield while working ridiculous hours at the Kwik-E-Mart to get moderately ahead would probably bring the sentiment right back.
Bart+Greta: "Down In The Boondocks", Billy Joe Royal
It could fit more than one of Bart's flings, but Greta came from such a different world that he'd always be conscious of it. Since Sherri and Terri's dad has a position of authority over Homer, it could work for one of them, too.
Bart+Laura: "The Girl Next Door", Frank Sinatra
This song is probably more famous with the genders flipped, sung by Judy Garland in the film
Meet Me in St. Louis, but Sinatra recorded it later, and in "New Kid on the Block" Bart was living the frustration of a crush on a girl so close yet so far:
So it's clear to see there's no hope for me/Though I live at 742 Evergreen Terrace and she lives at 744...
