Finally, another Lisa episode where she isn't a whiny, moralistic brat! * ducks as Graham throws an unidentifiable object at his head* This episode had heart and plenty of laughs. Damn, that Alex was cute...how I loathe him. And the Ribwich! Yes! Commercial parody! George Plimpton's performance was much better than a lot of recent guest-stars-playing-themsleves have been. High points: Elvira satire Ribwich commercial "I've eaten the ribs of GOD!" "SHUT UP!...Commander." George Plimpton's Hotplate Lisa's Milhouse-wedding "fantasy" BARNEY'S DRUNK AGAIN! WOO! Low points: Um...uh...dammit, I know there was something...oooh, lousy short memory span! Grade: A Closing remark: Does anyone else think "Mount Lisamore" will become a new spot-it-in-the-background gag?

I memorized "Holy Grail" really well I can recite it right now and have you ROTFLOL - "Weird Al" Yankovic, "White and Nerdy" "Any pile of stunted growth unaware that entertainment is just that and nothing more, deserves to doom themselves to some dank cell, somewhere, for having been so stupid!! Movies, books, T.V., music - they're all just entertainment, not guidebooks for damning yourself!" - Nny I draw too, dammit!

Two solid outings for The Simpsons this Sunday. I M Impressed. I figured the surreal Homer/Ribwich clip was a parody, but I haven't seen Requiem For A Dream- It was pretty cool on it's own though.
Anyway, we're starting to see a good use of dream/fantasy sequences, and solid supblot tie-ins. Kudos.
Can I forget?

This was a very good episode, and a very good Lisa episode to boot. It was great seeing Lisa's smartness appreciated, and the ending was incredibly sweet (though a bit odd at the very, very end). There were some really great jokes in the episode, too, and Homer's Ribwich hallucination was groovy. Liked the bit with Nelson. Willy's bits were very funny, and the 'Rocky' scene was cool, too. And I have to admit, it's great seeing drunk Barney again. The fantasy with Milhouse cracked me up. I give it an A-.

I didn't see all of this, so my judgment might be slightly impaired. My judgment is: a bit naff, none too bad. (That's my opinion of the episode, that is, not the state of my judgment.) The Ribswich subplot was totally lost on me, but I enjoyed seeing Elvira the Mistress of the Dark, though surely the satire could have been just a *little* bit more subtle?
The story itself... not really much to say about it, it seemed to me as though they crammed all the plot into the last five minutes. Not that it was particularly rancid. The Evil Dean was quite the villain... heh, I even enjoyed Homer's reffing his film. (Which just goes to show that I'm a sick female-chauvinist hypocrite, I guess, since apparently I have a problem with the word "boobs" but not with the word "phallus"... anyway.) The contest was actually suspenseful, though the plot could have been resolved a lot more gracefully. And Alex was disastrously cute. I'd have liked to see more of those two.
"R-I-G-G-E-D. Wigged."
On the downside... is it just me, or did Lisa's dreams and fantasies (even though they were funny) seem awfully sexist? (Note: Nah, Rich thinks so too.) All about getting married instead of going to uni, and how not shaving your armpits is apparently the most non-conformist thing you can ever do. Meh, Graham doesn't even shave his face, and everybody likes *him*... grrrrr... Oh well. And as I said, the solution to Lisa's dilemma was trite, and the very ending was stupid. I agree with Steve, though, there is something basically sound about the idea of a giant statue of Lisa.
I didn't think Lisa wanted to attend Vassar anyway?
I liked how the episode showed that glory and renown is better than material rewards or love, but then of course they blew that impression by showing Lisa as being happy on account of being lauded by all the jerks and lowlives of her own town. Still, I can't blinding well flame the episode just because it doesn't conform to my standards. All in all, it passed.
How can you misspell "intransigence", anyway?
On a slightly sadistic note, I enjoyed hearing that Paris had been wiped off the face of the Earth. And I *like* Paris! Weird...
So Barney had an R-E-L-A-P-S-E? Wow, that's the plot of "Lord of the Flyweights" down the drain...

Sock it to me! Sure, the episode was weird. But you have to admit: there's something beautiful about seeing Homer rushing over to support his daughter for once and Lisa's smartness actually being celebrated instead of derided.

Is that another of those refs I don't seem to get? Ooh, welcome back Jason. Now I don't have to become right-wing. (Silly in-joke which about two people in the club will get.) Sorry, lesbian colleges only admit lesbians. Of course, if you become a eunuch, you get to work in a harem all day long.
