Spoiler
(hover to show)
Mmm...an
okay
episode, but not as great as I had hoped.
I like Dwight. Lemme just say that right out. He was an endearing character and I like him.
Okay, the episode itself: The first act kind of dragged on (the
Negotiator
bit stands out in particular) and had some...unpleasantries (Gil apparently dying, which is never even brought up again), but I liked the reversal of having Homer show up almost two hours early for an Important Childhood Event.
Things started to pick up in the second act. I liked how Marge continually distracted herself from her visit. And Gloria making a vocal reappearance actually surprised me. I also liked the mountain-water-pipe gag, and Dwight stepping "on the camera" made for a good act break.
The montage in the third act amused me, what with the two consecutive screw-the-audience jokes. Once again, I reiterate my liking of Dwight. Going to all that trouble just to spend time at an amusement park with a mom (and actually calling Marge "Mom" before saving Wiggum)... Just pure "aww" territory here. The Hibbert/Krusty conversations were pretty "meh," though.
Now, my favorite moment: The Dilbert ride PLAYING THE THEME SONG. That was awesome.
Two weeks without a new episode. I want Halloween to be in October again, dangit.

This was a pretty hit-or-miss episode. Thankfully, there were much more hits than misses, but I still don't think the writers got everything they could out of this episode. If I had to pin down one problem with the current writing staff, that would be the biggest one.
Still, it was pretty good with some good chuckles here and there. Steve Buscemi was excellent as Dwight and I'm with Stretch Dude in saying that I really enjoyed the character. I hope to see more of him later on. Maybe in a Sideshow Bob-ish role, where he gets out of prison, only to land back in, that sort of thing.
SPOILER ALERT:
And hey, did they really kill off Ol' Gil? I mean is he *really* dead? And if so, when's it going to be Crazy Cat Lady's turn?
Also, this episode gets the award for Most Disturbing Itchy and Scratchy Episode Ever. And that's saying something.
Overall Grade:
B-
