Interesting.  A friend of mine who watches current Simpsons and generally likes it/finds it entertaining absolutely hated this episode and found it idiotic, and said she'd rather watch American Dad.

Dang, that's saying something.

Indeed. Opinions vary wildly, because I find current Simpsons entertaining, and, as noted, I liked the episode.

I think part of the key is just let go of the whole timeline thing. I dunno.

When you ignore the timeline issue, that was really pretty good. I especially loved the Back To The Future ref.

As I recall that's actually a pretty accurate portrayal of what the 90s were really like... Grin

The Scots (originally Irish, but by now Scotch) were at this time inhabiting Ireland, having driven the Irish (Picts) out of Scotland; while the Picts (originally Scots) were now Irish (living in brackets) and vice versa. It is essential to keep these distinctions clearly in mind (and verce visa).

This is one of those eps I, too, expected to hate.  Minus the headache that is continuity, I actually liked this!

Okay, so the '90's references were a little gratuitous, and Family Guy Did It First when it comes to the Back to the Future joke (and theirs was funnier).  But the episode got the underpinnings of Marge and Homer's relationship right, and the grunge song parodies they selected were pretty inspired.

I don't know.  I suppose we're in the position of having to accept that we've reached a time and place where it's no longer feasible for Homer and Marge to have been high school graduates in the mid-70's.  You have to hold aside the canonical issues to enjoy the ep, which is what I've done here.  What you get is a marginally flawed episode.  B+ for the effort, with points taken off for the canonical problems that have made my hobby harder  Tongue

((Okay, I'll bite and be the person who admits liking American Dad more than Family Guy...))
