It has to be said, squishing a full plot into a single paragraph synopsis is never a particularly easy challenge and always makes the plot sound contrived and, well, stupid.

Though, that said, some plots sound stupid no matter how you explain them.

The Scots (originally Irish, but by now Scotch) were at this time inhabiting Ireland, having driven the Irish (Picts) out of Scotland; while the Picts (originally Scots) were now Irish (living in brackets) and vice versa. It is essential to keep these distinctions clearly in mind (and verce visa).

When Lisa convinces Marge to pursue her childhood dream of becoming a ballerina by auditioning for the Chazz Busby Ballet Academy, Chazz discovers Lisa’s natural talent and enrolls her in the academy instead. During a break from practice, Lisa inhales her fellow ballerinas’ cigarette smoke and attributes her improvement in ballet to smoking. Lisa soon becomes addicted to secondhand smoke, with no chance of quitting in sight. Meanwhile, Homer shows Bart his secret room where he manufactures beef jerky. When Homer realizes that a family of raccoons have made off with his beef, he decides to confront the animals in the “Smoke on the Daughter” episode of THE SIMPSONS airing Sunday, March 30 (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (SI-1908) (TV-PG D, L, S, V)

Is it bad that I kinda want to see this?

No, I kind of want to see it too.

I think it sounds bad. But it sounds bad in a hideously inventive, original way, as opposed to a "let's get a guest star contracted and then use a vague plot that has already been on South Park, Family Guy and American Plagiarismo", and for this I think it deserves credit.

While I agree it doesn't sound like something another show has done, I think it sounds too much like several episodes that The Simpsons has already done before, none of which were that good in the first place. It's like a bad cross between The Last Tap Dance in Springfield mixed with Little Girl in the Big Ten and the subplot sounds like the subplot with Homer and Bart vs. the Beavers in Dude, Where's My Ranch?

I was thinking "The Last Tap Dance in Springfield" too. And let's not forget that Bart has already gone to ballet lessons in the subplot in "Homer vs. Patty and Selma". (Which of course was a good episode, mind.)

What I'm saying is: sure, I can cut them some slack in reusing vague set-ups like "Lisa takes dancing lessons". It's a bit weak, but it's a natural result of OFF's attempt to become The Neverending Show. The "originality" comes in the idea that *Lisa thinks cigarette smoke gives her dancing skills*. Where did they get that one from? Well, it sure wasn't from smoking harmless tobacco...

I'm one of those scary people who thinks the show's been improving gradually over the past couple of seasons - with occasional lapses into WTH-Are-They-Thinking land.

That said, the new episode sounds Scary Beyond All Reason and makes me consider watching a blooper special on NBC instead.

The thing that gets me is, isn't Lisa supposed to be the Educated Liberal Conscious of the show?  Knows far too much about everything, particularly that which is unhealthy or Wrong?  I can't even begin to fathom how Lisa would believe that second-hand smoke is good for her in any way, let alone help with freaking ballet.
