This one was pretty good, especially in the first act.  Though, I think the second and third acts suffered a bit from trying to squeeze too much plot into 22 minutes.  And the fact that this episode featured the Longest Couch Gag In History added to that.  Seemed kinda counterproductive to me.  Still, overall, it was okay.  It was made even better by the fact that it provided an opportunity for Dan to showcase his wonderful singing voice (even though, a lot of the time, Homer sounded a bit too much like Sideshow Mel).  Plus, the first song he sang (Lerner and Lowe's "If Ever I Would Leave You), I knew all the words to, so I got to sing along.  Kinda like when they did "Shapoopie" on Family Guy.

Overall: B

I think "When Couches Attack" was longer, actually.

I didn't see that one.  Maybe they should make an entire episode out of the couch gag.  At the end, they could finally all sit down and then the end credits roll.

They've done weirder things.

I think that 'When Couches Attack' gag should have REALLY been in a Halloween episode, it didn't fit in with the format.  Huh

I'm sure the monster couch thing was meant to be in the Thoh sixteen, but made some kind of screw-up somewhere and it wasn't complete in time. But I wouldn't be interested in seeing it as a full segment (I didn't really like it to be honest). I'm not sure how they could stretch out the evolution couch gag either.

I pretty much adored this one - the opera plot was genius (my big LOL moment was Homer explaining in character why he was lying on his back in La Boheme), Dan C. has incredible pipes, and the Julia thing was pretty awesome and fairly original (hey, now MARGE has an arch enemy!).  The writers remembered Homer, when confronted with temptation is oblivious and/or nervous, not lustful.

Overall, a B+ - it wasn't PERFECT, but it's funny, solid, decent writing all around.

Wow, a surprisingly awesome episode. An interesting new "job" for Homer, the operatic refs didn't feel dumbed down, and the entire action scene was gold, especially with the hilarious snipers sequence. A definite B+

I'm also very pleased that the latest round of "Homer gets a whacky job" eps end with him having to leave them for sensible reasons, not random nonsense.  This and "He Loves to Fly..." both featured sane reasons for Homer wanting out of his new situation.

Please enlighten me, as I haven't seen anything of this season:

There are *two consecutive* episodes about Homer getting a whacky new job?

Neither have I, but after a quick search it seems there will be three episodes in a row about Homer getting a wacky new job. Undecided

Perhaps they want to get the out of the way at the start of the season?

I thought that was probably the plan, but it's still a bit dull regardless.

I should've said the "wackyness" of the jobs in this case are debatable.  In any case, recent eps have been good.  TWO EPISODES IN A ROW WERE GOOD.  So that's something to cheer for.
