The first time Maggie spoke, it was just one word (“Daddy”), and Elizabeth Taylor did the honors. This time, Maggie is saying a bunch of words, and another film icon has lent her pipes to the cause: Jodie Foster (pictured, left). In an episode of The Simpsons slated to air in early 2009, she voices an adult version of Maggie. (The episode, “Four Great Women & A Manicure,” reimagines the worlds of Macbeth, The Fountainhead, Citizen Kane, and Queen Elizabeth I, with Springfield residents in key roles.)

Please don't kill me, but I kinda like this idea.  Though I would've done it differently, I like the idea of Maggie having a Silent-Bob-like monologue.  Just sayin'.   Maggie!

Truth be told, I'd feel better about it myself if it didn't appear to be happening in this year's trilogy episode.

And the other episode the article mentions has potential.

Yeah, I kind of like the idea of Maggie speaking (though it seems to me like another of their straw-grasping attempts), it's the rest of the description of the episode that just sounds... stoned. Or muddled.

And by golly, will they *never* stop with the three-story episodes? I liked "The Simpsons Bible Stories". Then it got real old, real fast.

I loved Maggie speaking in Lisa's First Word, but if they do this cheaply for ratings I will be angry on the Internet.

I tend to imagine her sounding like a lazier, deeper-voiced Lisa. Any thoughts?

Interesting thought! Me, I imagine her as having a very high-pitched voice, probably because she's usually so small.

Jodie Foster's voice is slightly deeper than Yeardley Smith's. (She also has a very unique voice, I wonder why she hasn't been on the show before.)

I liked the Bartman segment in "Revenge Is A Dish Best Served Three Times," but that's about it, I think.

I dunno if my blood's properly angried up about this or not.  I like the Idea of JF voicing Maggie, but the idea could die horribly and quickly with bad writing.

I always envisioned Maggie as having a slightly higher voice than Lisa's - less raspy.

YES! OH YES!
I always imagined Maggie having a deeper and well, more "normal" voice than Lisa; I have no idea why...   Jodie Foster wouldn't have immediately sprung to mind but on reflection, I really think she could pull it off.   It's just a shame the ep sounds dull as hell.   And haven't they already done Macbeth?

I don't think they have. They've done hamlet before, maybe that's what you're thinking of.

Back on topic, I'm not opposed to the idea of maggie speaking but the fact that it's going to be part of just another dull sounding episode just cheapens the idea. And aren't segmented episodes rushed enough without adding another part?

The closest they've come was Ian McKellan's turn in "The Regina Monologues".

Even though I'm not really sure about this, I am pretty curious about Maggie speaking.
