My personal RDT: Why isn't there more Skinner/Krabapple fic? I know, I know, if you want fic, you write it. I just think their relationship is unmined by fic writers and might be worth a spin.
* D.B. feels guilty about the skinner/krabapple fic he started but never finished.

I've always taken for granted that Jessica returned to boarding school (or perhaps went to a new one) after the events of "Bart's Girlfriend".
I'm not too sure whether Jessica returned to boarding school. Reverend Lovejoy did admit that he brought his daughter out of school a bit too soon but she was expelled, I don't think the boarding school would have her back. She probably went to a new one or stayed in springfield elementary, to the best of my memory it wasn't confirmed.

I don't have any strong opinion on Jessica's whereabouts after she was found out, but what I do know is she and her father appeared to be on good terms again as seen in I, D'ohb... that episode, and as much as I hate referring to that episode for canonical reasons, I doubt she'd be released from a boarding school to be allowed to compete in a robot fight.

Jessica's actions in "Bart's Girlfriend" weren't any reason for her to be expelled from school, because they didn't involve school. And since Jessica was in a boarding school before, I think the Rev would see SES as a last choice - she's already got herself barred from all the private schools, I suspect. I think she's still at SES.
My question is thus... why did the Rev send her to boarding school?
So she could get the best education? So she could be kept out of his hair? So she wouldn't cause trouble and impact his reputation?
(this was due to be a minor subplot in Simpmoon R)

I personally think the answer would be three, maybe with a bit of two. It's possible that Jessica's birth wasn't planned and that niether Tim nor Helen truly wanted her, and felt that thier daughter's existance would stain thier reputation, leading to her crys for attention. Maybe she could of been a good kid if she had a little love from her parents when she was younger. Then again, she may of worked out her differences with the Rev, thus redeeming herself. I also think Jessica might of got straight A grades by cheating, it sounds like something she would do.

And I wasn't overthinking before? anyway, many of the characters changed after season 8/9 a good number of them had become defined by a few or less traits (Homer's ever changing employment/ stupidity is a good example of this change in the Scully era) thus being turned into machines for a type of joke like the cat lady throwing...cats (which is probably the only reason for her return) some of them needing negative changes in order to be suitable for the designated gag, like Moe. But who has changed the least if at all? Is there anyone who might of changed for the better? And one more question. Does anyone think the cat lady might of become slightly popular if she only appeared in "Girly edition"? I've decided to leave the thinking to everybody else this time.

"Popular" I don't know. Probably. I know the Very Tall Man is slightly popular. Fans of one-episode, one-joke characters are a niche market, so I can't really speak for them. What I *know* is: she wouldn't have become impopular.

RE: Jessica: I always assumed the Rev had sent her to an out-of-town parochial school - since the only private school in Springfield is apparently Catholic and TFCOS is apparently Christian-Credal but not Catholic, I figured Tim wanted his kid to get a pro-religeon education that wasn't sponsored by Chef Boy-Ar-Dee RE: The Crazy Cat Lady: it's that her gimmick is so one-note, plus it involves cat-tossing which might sensitize certain folks. The Very Tall Man was interesting because he stood up to Nelson, and had some interesting deapth to him.

But the very tall man's gimmick (height) was rather one-note yet I thought he was still cool, mostly because I can relate to him (slightly). Also, he only had a speaking role in one episode so the jokes didn't get killed. The quality of characters that rely on a certain gimmick and usually don't have a personality outside of the given trait may depend on what type of quirk they posses, behavior/physical attribute or profession. There seems to be far less flexibility with characters that have joke writing with the way they act (like the C.C.C) or phyical qualities (such as the really tall guy), because sometimes thier "rule" means they pretty much act the same way every time (especially the C.C.C) so the joke gets worn out sometime. But not all characters that are based on thier behavior immediately suck. If the material for the character is something like profession then there's usually significantly more, and better material to be used as the gimmick is less restricted meaning the character can appear many times and still be fresh. Lionel Hutz is a great example of this, all he really was character wise was "the incompetent lawyer" but because his job was so flexible he ended up being a consistantly hilarious character. But not all "profession" gimmick characters will be great if there isn't enough material for the job. Now I'm really overthinking things.

Eh, VTM also has other characteristics - he had a backbone, which expands his range of use, and he stands up to Nelson, a notorious bully. Those are at least three notes. Crazy Cat Lady only throws cats and yells incoherently, which, despite her backstroy, doesn't give us many options writing-wise. D.B and Chris - I encourage you guys to revise and/or rewrite those scripts and post, if the itch hits either of you - I've only read one really nice S/K fic my entire existance in this fandom. New Topic: I'm surprised there's not more Krusty-centric fic. He's a jerk, sure, but they've given him an interesting, dramatic background with his father, various emotional issues and daughter. That's a lot of grist for the mill...

To Missy Misery: Yes! Amen to the SelmaxMoe! I mean, desperate, growing old, lonely, grey-haired, bitter-its a match made in heaven! I've never gotten to writing anything with such...or anything good, for that matter (if I might employ some self-imposed modesty).
To Tyrranus, again, yes! Jessica and Bart are just not compatible. Good dialogue pair? sure! Good drama and conflict? Definitely! True, lasting love? Most likely not.
Another here-here!: Skinner and Krabappel not marrying was the biggest letdown in the history of my viewing. I mean, I know its an animated sit-com and not a soap opera, but come on, I'm a sucker for romance and lasting changes for characters!
*takes a deep breath* its good to be back!
