RE: Jessica/Bart - it's one of the more preffered Bart-related pairings when it comes to fic.  I think it's because she stirred him up more than most of the other girls he's met on-canvas.

And I somehow knew Bart/Bob existed....

Or fanfiction.net, or both. But really, all modern pairings I see involve a pair of characters that;
A) Are likely enemies (e.g. Jessica, Sideshow Bob or Nelson for Bart)
B) Or have never interacted/barely know of each other if at all in the show (Bart/Alex for instance, can someone explain why they would be an item?)
Rarely do I see a pairing idea that may stand a chance in canon, except the usual Jess/Bart and Lisa/Nelson. Not to say all original ideas are bad, there's already a feasable idea from KoKoro, it's just that most boggle or burst the mind.

Re: Nonsensical developments: Now I think about it, what was with Sideshow Bob since "Day of the Jackanapes"? At the end of the said episode Bob learns that Krusty did actually care about him and forgives Krusty, and Bart realising that he was in the wrong. Everything's okay and the story ended on a nice note, for a Scully ep at least (minus the attempted gag at the end). And then, in his next appearence he suddenly changes back to his old self, and then saying he can't kill Bart when he had the opportunity...and then he tries to kill the simpson family again in "The italian Bob". It was like the writers were desperate to reuse him again.

Some pairings are from Mars, some pairings are from Venus Wink

RE: Odd pairings: I've got Martin/Alex going on in Waving-verse, which happened simply because I liked the idea of this very trendy, modern girl and this insular, old-fashioned sort of guy finding a complimentary wavelength. I've got Bart/Laura in that universe, too, mostly because I like their jocular sense of patter.

RE: Bob: I think that's a retcon of a kind from the Scully years.

Re Nonsensical Developments: The poor writers are running out of fresh ideas, there's going to be another Bob episode this season where he tries to kill the Simpsons. But he's a popular character, so that's probably why he's used again and again.

Re Odd Pairings: Hmm...to be honest, if the pairing has a plausible explanation, I don't find it odd. Different and perhaps unlikely, but not really odd. Like, Missy's Martin/Alex pairing would be pretty interesting to see, and I think the Laura/Bart pairing is really cute (Laura's really cool, Sara Gilbert gave her the perfect voice!). I understand what you're saying on the never interacted sentiment, yeah, that can be kind of mind-boggling, but if it's executed well, I find it perfectly okay.

Bart/Alex...huh, I don't know, it could work I guess. Alex Whitney...I'm kind of on the fence with her, she was kind of a brat, but she was likable in her own way. A lot of slash (excluding Burns/Smithers, Lenny/Carl, and the like, also Bart/Milhouse because even that could be feasible) and OC pairings don't make much sense to me, because the characters are too OOC in them. I've read one Sherri/Terri fic, and being a twin myself, my response is almost an automatic "ew." Bart/Bob just irks me, because why would Bart fall in love with someone who wanted to kill him? Bart is so very OOC in the fics I read about them. But no offense to it's fans, which there are a lot of suprisingly. And Tyrannus, I think I know the fic you're talking about when you said the likely enemies thing...the Bob/Bart/Nelson fic? That fic was kind of...err...bad, I don't want to be too harsh though. And then there's Bart/Lisa...however compatible they may be, them pursuing a romantic relationship gives my poor brain cancer.

Maybe I should make a list of kid pairings I like...eh, I'm a bit bored you see..
Lisa/Nelson- "Lisa's Date with Density" is one of my absolute favorites, and I like their little "opposites attract" thing going on.
Lisa/Milhouse- Unrequited love is so cute and tragic...heh, I'm a romantic at heart. ^__^;
Lisa/Ralph- Mainly because "I Love Lisa" is in my top 5 favorite episodes. And sensible Ralph ala BTTF and Lisa could work.
Bart/Jess- Jessica hasn't completely won me over yet, but J/B fic are usually quite interesting.
Bart/Laura- Missy's converted me. ^_^
Bart/Greta Wolfcastle- It could work.
Martin/Allison- As I explained previously, it's a really cute pairing that doesn't get used often (probably because Martin is almost always the hated kid/villain in fanfiction, poor kid), but it feels so canon in a way.

I think of Simpsons pairings as a mix-and-match game. Almost anything could work really. Just be logical about it. In Futurama, it's so much easier, as almost all of us are on the same boat (Fry/Leela! Woo-hoo!).

Not *everyone*.

I don't care much about pairings, but I strongly suspect that Jessica has her prime of place in fanfiction because she's 1) a canonical love interest for Bart who 2) actually reciprocated his feelings (even if for selfish motives) and 3) is a rather interesting character in her own right. (Laura, who would make for a much more equal and lasting relationship, canonically fulfils 1 and 3 but not 2.)

I don't see Martin as actively wanting to be a badass in "Bart Gets an F" (lovely episode, BTW, I just watched it recently). He just wants to do what it takes to become popular.

EDIT: It would have been great if Colin had turned out to be a fake!Stu, or just generally having some sort of dark secret or bad side. But let's face it, he was never more than a semi-driving force for the main plot and an excuse to give Lisa five minutes of screentime. For all I know, we might see him again on the show sometime, though.

A more dramatic mini-series or multi-episode arc set in the future would be nice. As long as it's not some teen-angst or romance tripe.

True, definitely not everyone. But a lot of people actively ship Fry and Leela as far as I know. But to be honest, I'm not really that big of a shipper, especially compared to some...

I agree with the rest of what you said, though. You make good points.

Oh, there's a slightly smaller clump of Amy/Fry 'shipers, some Amy/Leela 'shipers, and even a few Leela/Zapp 'shipers out there among us.  So 'Frama fandom has variety, it's just that the other 'ships are the vocal minorities.

Oh, I don't blame you for forgetting - the Fry/Leela section of the fandom is very vocal (and I'm a Fry/Leela 'shipper to an extent, so I speak from experience).

Now, this here is a great find. I will have a read at some of it.  Shocked and then I'll be able to write something worthwhile.

Off-topic, but have you guys seen 24 Minutes? I thought that was an impressive episode, especially since it was in such a lackluster season...

Anyway, are you guys looking forward to any season 19 episodes? I read the description for "Little Orphan Millie" and it sounded pretty decent. I kinda like the darker approach they seem to be taking this season. Also, I like how they seem to be trying not to make this season so Homer-centric, from what I can tell, even though 3 episodes shown so far have been about Homer.
