Neologism is the new song title game

Postby Bearperson Z. Medvedeva » Sun Jul 06, 2003 7:44 pm

Well... another game thread.

The skinny: I name a word/group of words describing a thing or person from any book, show, film or game. The person who names the fandom where I got the word/idea gets to post his/her own one. And so on.

Some rules (of sorts):

We are talking about one or a few words (for example "vermine", "fission ball") for a thing. Not long quotes or mannerisms, such as "a tradition or an old charter or something.

Nouns only (or this would get pretty big).

Preferrably, the thing in question should not be something that has a definite "the" prefixed (so no Knights of Ni, Blood of the Fold, White Tower etc.) It's a grey area (what about the Triforce?), but basically, if there's only one of something, not. (There are many Knights of Ni, but as a group, they're a very distinct entity.)

If in doubt, choose the oldest fandom. (For example, "snark" appears in both "HalfLife" and Lewis Carroll's poem "The Hunting of the Snark", but the latter is definitely the original occurrence.)

Since we're talking about unique words and phrases, fantasy and sci-fi fandoms will probably be predominant, but not necessarily so.

EDIT: If the guessing goes on for long, or the fandom is very esoteric, hinting can start.

So, to kick this off: "senile delinquents"
