Due to popular, insistent demand I've started this thread as a place for any drawings I do.

This is definitely an improvement: the pose is dynamic and you are certainly getting your own distinctive style (I like her eyes). Body proportions are good, as far as I can tell. I'm happy that you put in a background that provides a bit of story. Interesting space suit, nicely unusual gun shape. The inking is good.

I'll leave the constructive criticism to those who know more about art than I. I have some problems with the shape of her right shoe, but then I don't really know what they are supposed to look like. Her hands are good (not perfect, probably, but fully adequate to me), but her left thumb looks too short compared to the fingers.

Keep it up! I for one like seeing your offtopic art.

Heh heh, for rampant cheesecake, this isn't so bad.  Smiley She's quite cute. I like her pose and tail (and the one fang). The hair and wings are well done, too, and the position of her feet. However, your characters still look a bit stiff - I think it's the joints, they're rather too angular. Also, on most people, the lower legs are pretty much as long as the thighs. (Not on me, but that's because I'm weird.)

Short and very critical post due to me working at the moment. Don't get me wrong, I like this picture more than most. Is it "Disgaea"-inspired?

So I guess I might as well bring this topic back to life.

Those who were in chat already saw this, this is the shaded and coloured version of the main characters.

Average Schoolgirls (in animé, always a filthy lie)

Still to do - the passer-by, and the background.

Just how crappy can a background be?

I happen to think it's a very good background. It's not distracting from the main focus of the image but it's detailed enough to be there without throwing the viewer out of the picture. Smiley

I don't think the background is crappy. It's nice and fulfils its purpose.

I've told you this already, but the characters are good. I particularly like the centaur, as you know, but the catgirl and giantess are great, too. (And the ordinary guy just walking past is a hilarious touch.)

I can still see definite improvement in your art. Keep it up.

Normally I am not a fan of premade backgrounds, but I have to say the bridge photo in particular is well-chosen*. The girls look unbelievably cute, especially the younger stages (though I think Jessica wants either all my candy or my soul).

Stuff I think this pic needs: shadows to connect the figures to the background (try a very dark colour on very low opacity to avoid blurring the photo too much), and smaller heads/faces. I know that tends to be the animé thing, but body height-to-head size doesn't seem to be as much of a problem here as body width-to-head-width. And a white spot on the eye. Keep going!

*And, hey, cel-colouring on real-life backgrounds worked for Roger Rabbit... Grin

So I took Beb's suggestions on, and tried churning this out - http://steve.simpworks.com/simpmoon.jpg

I'd really like some hard crit and suggestions ont this one, particularly the proportions.

The head-to-body proportion is much better here -- iirc you included the neck in the head measurement, which seems to be a great way to avoid enormous heads. I'll think about the proportions some more, but one thing that comes to mind is that the bodies and limbs (legs in particular) are very long and thin*. Assuming the girls are the same ages as in the show, I reckon the limbs should be stockier and/or shorter.

*I know, it's animé. But I'm sure there's a way to do it so the figure looks elegant and won't snap under the weight of the eyeballs.

Good glayvin, you could spear fish with those l-- er, anyway, sorry; wasn't sure if this was a general proportion thing or you wanted to draw the girls on-model for Sailor Moon.

In this case, I'd suggest taking that there official pic and drawing construction lines over it so you can see the mass of the head, face, ribcage, pelvis etc, and how they connect up and move. If you can get any close-ups of hands* it's worth doing those in detail, imo.

*and ankles/feet. But from somewhere else, because most of those feet don't look like they're on a surface at all.
